How It Works

The 12th Annual Monster Dash Run for Education has gone VIRTUAL this year!

What does that mean?

While we can’t meet at the starting line together this year, it’s up to you to plan a frighteningly fun event! You’ll still register and run your distance, but you’ll choose the route, your starting time, and your festivities before, during, and after the race. Don’t worry, we’ve got lots of ideas!

Step 1: Register

Sign up online for the 1-mile, 5K, or 10K distances. Don’t plan on running? That’s okay, too! You can walk, sprint, or creepy-crawl your distance. In fact you don’t even have to run…you can just sign up for one of the run events in order to join us for the virtual Costume Contest! Prizes won’t be given for the fastest times, but submitting your time – any time – will get you in the mix for random prize drawings!

Step 2: Start training

Keep an eye on our Facebook page and Instagram page for fitness tips and challenges all October long. The Ashland Family YMCA and Treehouse Books are getting in on the fun, too, with fun Halloween activities. Make it a family and friends affair, and start planning with everyone in your “bubble!”

Step 3: Pick up your packet

This year we’ll be hosting two drive-thru packet pickups. You’ll pull up in your car, and masked volunteers will ask your name and bring your packet to you. All registrants will receive a bib, medal and a crepe paper finish line.

Youth registrants will also receive a Monster Dash Fun Packet that includes activities, treats, and more. And new this year: A free science kit or a realistic Wildlife Wow animal from Blue Marble! You’ll be able to choose from several offerings at Packet Pickups on a first-come availability (kits for ages 6 and older, animals age 3 and up).

More details on packet pick-up location and times coming soon!

Step 4: Run your distance

Run or walk your 1-mile, 5k or 10k distance anytime between October 23rd-31st.  Tracking your time, choosing your route and having fun is all up to you! You’ll be able to upload your finish time to the registration website, and see your fellow racers’ speeds, too. Submit and share your time for a chance to win even more prizes!

Step 5: Cross the finish line

What’s a race without a finish line? Every participant will receive finish line streamers to cross when they’ve covered their distance. Get your fearsome friends to hold it tight, cut it into confetti, or tie it between trees for a finish worthy of champions. Don’t miss the chance to take some great finish line videos for our video and photo contests (dancing, cheers and role-playing are all encouraged!)

Step 6: Enter this year’s MANY contests

Enter any or all of our costume and video contests! Visit our Contests page for more information about how this year’s contests will work. We’ve got lots of categories and prizes lined up for you, your family, your pets…don’t miss out!

Step 8: Celebrate!

We REALLY wish we could all be together this Halloween. We hope instead you seize the opportunity to make the 2020 Monster Dash a family, friend, or neighborhood bubble affair. Follow our Facebook page for celebration ideas all October-long (recipes, activities and more).
