IN-PERSON: How It Works

in person monster dash

We’re excited to see racers back in Lithia Park for the 13th Annual Monster Dash Run for Education!

How does it work this year?

Racers in 2021 have the choice of signing up for the in-person event in Lithia Park on Saturday, October 30th – OR – a virtual event to run anytime, anywhere through October 30th.

For information on how the virtual race will work this year, click here

Step 1: Choose your start time

In an effort to promote social distancing and reduce the number of racers together at the start line, we’re offering multiple start times for the 1-mile and 5k races. Each wave will be limited to a maximum of 150 racers. Get with your friends ahead of time and choose the same wave if you all want to race together!

10k race – starts at 8am
5k race – starts at 9am or 10:30am
1-mile race – starts at 9:30am, 10:30am or 11:30am

Step 2: Register

Registration is NOW OPEN for the 1-mile, 5K, or 10K distances. This year, registration is in-advance and online only! No other registration method will be offered, including paper mailers, and in-person registration will HALT AT 10PM on Friday, October 29! You will not be able to register in the Park the morning of the race. With the many different waves, and participant limitations, it’s too difficult.

Step 3: Start training

Keep an eye on our Facebook page and Instagram page for fitness tips and challenges all October long. The Ashland Family YMCA and Treehouse Books are getting in on the fun, too, with fun Halloween activities. Make training a family and friends affair if you wish!

Step 3: Pick up your packet

This year we’re hosting two drive-thru packet pickups at Ashland Middle School, PLUS a race day packet pickup at the starting line on Saturday, October 30th. For the drive thru pickups, you’ll pull up in your car, and masked volunteers will ask your name and bring your packet to you. All registrants will receive a bib, sponsor coupons, and fun giveaways. Virtual runners will also receive a crepe paper finish line, and their finisher’s medal for their virtual race celebrations.

Youth registrants will also receive a Monster Dash Fun Packet that includes activities, treats, and (bonus!) a free science kit or a realistic Wildlife Wow animal from Blue Marble. Kids will be able to choose from several offerings at Packet Pickups on a first-come availability (kits for ages 6 and older, animals age 3 and up).

Step 4: Arrive on time

On October 30th, please come to your starting line in Lithia Park no sooner than 15 minutes before your race event. We will also be asking participants to leave the race area shortly after their races are over.

If you’re running the Mile or 5K and can’t remember your wave time, it is on your race bib, or is on your confirmation email just below the bar code.

MILE and 10K Start/Finish Location: Just below the Band Shell in Lithia Park.
5K Start/Finish Location: The parking area on Granite St across from Lantern Hill Rd (just above the old Parks office)

See below for map and descriptions of race courses.

Step 5: Be safe

We will be asking all racers to:

  • socially distance when lining up at the start
  • mask-up when not running
  • run on the right side of the street
Step 6: Enter this year’s MANY contests

We will not be giving on-site awards this year, except for finishers’ medals as all participants cross the finish line. Awards will be announced the week following the race online, and winners will be contacted.

ALL racers are invited to enter any or all of our virtual costume and video contests! Visit our Contests page for information about how this year’s contests will work. We’ve got lots of categories and prizes lined up for you, your family, your pets…don’t miss out!

Step 8: Celebrate!

We really look forward to seeing you for the 2021 Virtual Monster Dash in Lithia Park! And even though won’t be having a ball together before or after the race, we invite you to follow our Facebook page for celebration ideas all October-long (recipes, activities and more).
